I found out about the Smartboard from a friend of mine, Andy. He’s a studio owner as well. He sent me 2 files, both the same bounce, but one had the Thor on it, and the other didn’t. The song was passing out of Pro tools into a few analog bits, then back into stereo converters to get back to pro tools. The difference was significant!

I ended up getting a Smartboard for a trial, and ended up buying it later that day. I didn’t even realise i had any power issues. Ive used power conditioners before, and have found they are acoustically noisy, and didn’t give me anything noticeably better.

Straight away when i plugged in the Smartboard, i noticed a few things. First up was i thought i forgot to turn on my amps that power my monitors. Looked down, and they were actually on. I turned my monitor controller up to full, and not even a hint of hiss. None. Was quite odd to experience.

When recording, i had many bits of outboard connected to my converters. Main difference i notice has to do with space and depth. Not sure exactly how to explain this, but i felt like the sound wasn’t coming at me from my speakers. I felt like i had to listen into the speakers. It makes everything clearer, and easier to hear the exact space the sound is actually sitting in. Sometimes when mixing for a few hours, i have to listen from outside the room for perspective. With the Smartboard on, I’m not being smacked in the face when i bring a sound forward. It gently sidles up front. Again, quite weird to hear the first time. Loved it.

I also noticed everything felt more stable. Everything feels tighter. Bottom end is More solid, and easier to hear whats going on down there.

It has made all my gear sound better. Everything. I have certain preamps i got bored with a while back. I kinda love some of them again. I think I’m hearing how they are supposed to sound. Mental..

My mastering engineer heard the difference this morning too. Andy (fellow studio owner) sent him the same 2 files we had listened to initially when testing out the Thor. We didn’t tell him what was what, or even why they are different. He could totally hear what Andy and i already felt. His description involved space, depth, solid etc. All the audio cliches. PS, he’s quite a mastering engineer too. The fella has a couple of Grammys!.
Got him all intrigued too. I think he will be trying out some Thor stuff now.

Think I’m going to get one for the other room too now.

Thank you for your assistance and explanation in the advantages and benefits of using a PS10 in my music recording home mini studio.

I must admit… I was a sceptic as to the overall benefits of the use of an independent Power Station with its own surge protection and filtration A12BF power board.

Having invested quite significantly in Yamaha Products from Workstations to Stage Amplifiers and other sound mixing equipment and PC recording equipment and I was very aware in the need for surge protection but I had a different brand of power board for surge protection but never considered the Thor Technology product…

What a difference a PS10 makes… After making the decision to refit my home studio and include a PS10… the results were staggering… and very pleasing to the ear…

I specialise in European or old 50-s & 60s style music and so subtle sound variances in the various options available with the keyboards internal instrument settings for Accordions, Piano, Saxophone or Guitars or my even my own instrument creations I noted definite improvements to the Dynamic Range in hearing instruments and sound quality improvement beyond my expectations. I heard instrument combinations that had previously been non-existent or hard to hear when using the PA system or the internal Keyboard speaker system. WOW…

Secondly when using a PC or laptop to record music I noted that there was distinct sound buzz or floor level noise which was annoying in very quiet pieces of music… a definite improvement when the Computer / Laptop and the full studio system was run through the PS10.

If anyone is serious about MUSIC whether just for personal listening pleasure at home, live performance or Music Production / Recording of a commercial master disc or demo disc production or even small scale disc production… The PS10 is your ticket to a great music experience

Now that I have personally experienced performance improvements … I am a believer…

I want to let you know that I am really impressed with your C2 Smart Filter Duo. For 3 years one of these protected my laptop from some vicious power surges in Ghana. On one occasion, a colleague had a C2 plugged into a power outlet that exploded and burst into flames. He was using his computer at the time, but whatever caused the explosion and fire in the power outlet had no effect on the computer.

Just bought the A12BF Smart Board. This has cleaned up the sound stage of my system. Marantz AV7005 pre amp. Three Rotel power amps 2 x 1070’s, one 1080. Blue Rae Oppo 95 player, it has cleaned the base sound of the speakers. I am now going to clean up the power with PS10 Smart Station, for we still do no have stable power.

I recently brought a new laptop at Harvey Norman, and the sales associate suggested I buy a THOR laptop/notebook protector to guard my equipment from a power surge which would save me from losing any data etc. At first I was sceptical because I had been living in the UK and never needed anything like that, but having returned home and knowing that Brisbane is always dealing with some kind of tropical storm I reconsidered my scepticism and decided to give it a try.

Thought I would send you a quick not to say how happy we are since installing Thor powerboards in our office.  I am the Director for answers IT and we rely on our systems to run the business.  We had regular power issues with monitors as well as the simplicity of the plugs of our devices sitting ‘nicely’ in a powerboard.  Now with Thor we find that the monitor brightness has been improved on all cases and no more falling out power cords from other power boards.

Last Monday evening, February 21 2011 marked as one of the most severe thunderstorms I’ve seen in Brisbane.

I had returned home from work to find an Energex crew repairing a nearby street light. Power was out in the street. It was clear that lightening has struck nearby.

The following morning I discovered that my NAS (fileserver) was not working – it had suffered surge damage. The unit contains ~ 4GB of data. Video, music, our family pictures and movies. All of the data was scrambled during the surge. Thankfully, all of my other computer equipment, my modem, my Sony stereo, computer monitors, etc were all plugged into my Thor Smart Board. Unlike my NAS, they are all in perfect working order.

So thanks for making such a great product guys – I own 2 now.

On the 21/10/03 we experienced a thunderstorm. At approx 5:30 PM, my children and myself were in the dinning room when the lightening struck. There was a terrifically loud bang and a bright blue lightening bolt shot out of our Computer. The computer was saved, but the surge board was struck. Luckily the surge board saved our $3,000.00 computer system.

I highly recommend the Surge board to anyone who has a computer system. After experiencing an incident like I have, there is no way I would ever be without one.

After this incident, I will not only protect my computer with a surge board, but my entertainment equipment also.

I cannot express the importance of these Surge Boards to anyone enough they are worth their weight in Gold.

To whom it may concern,

I have a home theatre system with a set top box. Every time anything in the kitchen was turned on or the washing machine changed cycles the set top box would scramble the TV picture. I put a Thor Premium A2 power filter on the system because I wanted to protect my theatre system against surges and was amazed to find that the “picture scrambling” problem has totally disappeared. The filtering on this unit is unbelievable.

After that, every time the lights were turned on, I would get a crackling through the speakers until the lights were on fully. On Friday I installed an A12 Smart Board, due to a history of equipment damage (power supplies mostly) to my hi-fi and connected TV system over the year. It may or may not have something to do with a sub-station just 15 feet away beyond the lounge room wall where my gear sits. From the moment I plugged in the A12 I finally achieved the hi-fi quality I have dreamed of.  I guess it’s cleaned the power supply of noise and conditioned it — whatever, it is a result that finally makes my system worth the money I have spent on it over the years. I am very happy.

I always thought power conditioning was beyond my reach but it seems that’s not the case.

I recently purchased a Thor Premium Power Filter, to protect my valuable Home Theatre equipment which includes a Rear Projection TV, audiophile Power Amplifier, A/V Amplifier, DVD/SACD player, Phono Turntable, VCR, Subwoofer and associated loudspeakers.

Apart from the peace of mind i had from the 8 way board the 6 year free replacement warranty was not something i thought i would really need to use. However , after a storm went through my area i could detect a burnt odour and found the Thor Power Filter was the culprit. The power board had obviously been severely damaged by a power surge and had thankfully done its job sacrificing itself to save my equipment. To the best of my knowledge my equipment is functioning as if nothing has happened.

I rang the store where i purchased the unit from and they told me to bring it in and it would be replaced for a new board. There were no questions on proof of purchase or receipts it was as easy as bringing in the damaged unit and a replacement was supplied on the spot.

I then rang the manufacturer to let him know about my situation and informed them how happy I was. I have already and would now recommend their product even more highly.

I recently purchased one of your Thor Surge Shield Premium Series “A1” Active Tracking Line Filters and after connecting it to my system I felt obliged to contact you.

As the proprietor of a Home Theatre Audio and visual calibration service I make my living by re calibrating and adjusting factory pre settings on Hi Fi and Home Theatre equipment using sophisticated test procedures based on international standards that improves performance for discerning clients.

Calibration is about optimising adjustments to enhance performance of a client’s personal choice of equipment in their own unique Home Theatre environment.

The improvements on most occasions are spectacular. And whilst I have understood the need for clean power for some time it was just not available, I can now proudly offer this quality product to my clients.

I have installed the THOR TECHNOLOGY “A2” into my own system as my main AC filter, I was attracted initially by the Dynamic Active Tracking filters and the feature of three separate individual filters on the one power board and the massive surge and protection levels. The isolation feature allows me to separate various components from each other eliminating electrical cross talk. As a result I have noticed a significant improvement in both the audio and visual performance of my system.

My system uses a variety of high end products from different manufactures, and prior to installation of my THOR A2, I was able to hear a low level hum from my speakers when not playing program material. I was also able to see a “ripple” through the projected video display that could only be caused by power interference from I suspect other automatic household appliances.

After I installed my THOR A2 and re-calibrated my audio and video system, I noticed the difference that would have to be experienced to be believed.

Based on my personal experience I believe the THOR TECHNOLOGY A2 Dynamic Active Tracking Filter and calibration should be a planned part of any system you have or are considering.

I have just installed a foxtel IQ box in my Gym TV. Unfortunately, for some mysterious reason, when I used the running machine, the TV picture and sound flicker and were distorted so much as to become unwatchable. Probably something to do with the electric motor in the machine and the electric field that it generates. A Thor representative came out and installed a small, two outlet filter and the problem was completely resolved – Perfect picture again. The little box also protects me from power spikes as well as electrical interference. I certainly recommend Thor products to anyone with similar problems.

After living with the PS10 for a week thought I would give you some  feedback.  As to improvements in sound reproduction there seem to be changes right across the board particularly in the microdetails.  Soundstaging is a lot more precise with all sorts of background sounds being able to be heard.  For some reason my Conrad Johnson CA200 control amp seems to be “louder” and its performance at lower volume levels seems much enhanced. The build quality of the PS 10 is very good and having the A12 power board as well really sorts out a few installation concerns I had. The three separated “banks” of power points is a great idea. I’m using my McCormack UDP1 Universal player on Bank 1 which seems to be ideal. Is the PS 10 worth the money? Compare its price with the $30,000 worth of Hi Fi gear it provides power to and there is no question of it being worth every cent. For high quality power 24/7 in a Hi Fi situation the PS 10 is a must.

I have been a hifi enthusist for over 25 years and have played around with many power regulators and filters for my high end equipment over the years and I can honestly say that the Thor is the first unit I have used which not only solved a mains problem that was frustrating me for a while, but it also markedly improved the quality of the sound I was getting across all frequencies including deeper and better defined bass. I wanted to thank and acknowledge you for the excellent advice and assistance which you have provided for us recently.

Living in the hills definitely has its challenges when it comes to a supply of clean, constant, reliable power. There are more spikes here than on the railings around Buckingham Palace, and as you know, I was extremely concerned about the possible effect on our two brand new Sony Bravia LCD TVs.

The installation of the Thor Smart Power Stations offers us the peace of mind that we were looking for, and it’s interesting to note from the display panels, that the voltage coming in to the Smart Stations varies wildly – anything from 219v to over 250v. It’s reassuring to know that the Sony’s are receiving a constant 240v thanks to Thor, and I feel the cost is a small price to pay for this peace of mind. I have chosen Thor because it is Australian designed, with WA’s erratic power conditions in mind.

During deployment of outdoor digital signage screens for a large national grocery chain we were having issues with switch mode power supplies due to surges/spikes and noise. Since adding a Thor DRM95-20A filter to each unit we have had no further failures to date. I wanted to thank you for the A12BF that I bought recently. It’s like I have never heard my guitar, bass or amplifier before. All the electric instruments sing in a way I’ve never heard, and what I had thought was a noisy rig is now dead quiet. Even the 60 cycle hum on single coil guitar pickups is greatly reduced. The A12BF is the single best piece of musical equipment I’ve ever incorporated in my setup.

If you haven’t focused on us already, musicians playing amplified instruments could benefit greatly from what you do.
