The device, installed for two years in Queensland, sacrificed its internal components to successfully shield a high-value $80,000 CBUS system from a massive Earth-borne surge, demonstrating the critical importance of protecting all conductor pathways. THE DILEMMA: THE RARE, DESTRUCTIVE EARTH SURGE.
The challenge in modern electrical protection isn’t just common surges; it’s anticipating and mitigating rare, high-energy events that exploit unconventional pathways.
The Problem: Traditional surge protection devices often only focus on the Active-Neutral pathway, which accounts for roughly 90% of surge damage cases. This leaves critical equipment vulnerable to the remaining 10% of surges that enter via the Earth line. When a major Earth-borne event occurs, unmanaged equipment and standard protectors are defenceless.
The Flaw in Traditional Solutions: A surge protector that only addresses two modes of protection acts as a weak link during extreme, multi-directional electrical faults, leading to catastrophic equipment failure and potential fire hazards.

Safety & Containment: The device prevented high voltage from passing through to the downstream loads. The engineered, flame-retardant housing ensured that even during the thermal deformation and rupturing of internal components, the switchboard did not catch fire.
