Our Founder Story
In September 2001, Thor Technologies was established by Nile Ausmus, Roy Stokes, and George Forster-Jones, with Willy Nelissen leading technical development. The founding team carried more than a decade of shared experience from APE, united by a vision to design products that could protect the rapidly emerging digital electronics era.
The first Thor products were the Surge Shield 8-outlet and 7-outlet boards, incorporating not only surge protection but also advanced filtration circuits. This was a visionary step at the dawn of the 2000s, when the proliferation of sensitive digital devices demanded a new level of protection against spikes, surges, and “dirty power.”
About George Forster-Jones
George is the Managing Director of Thor Technologies Pty Ltd. (Thor), and a widely recognised authority in power protection and filtration, with more than 30 years of experience in the industry. Since 2001, George has been driving innovation, sparking breakthroughs for our ever more electrified and connected world. Through his leadership and expertise, he has transformed Thor into the leading premium brand for smart, integrated, and resilient power protection solutions energising business and community.

You’re supported by engineers boasting over 120 years of combined experience in Electrical and Electronics engineering, with Thor’s two main specialists contributing more than 80 years of that expertise. These professionals collaborate with a highly regarded Associate Professor at Waikato University in New Zealand, an expert who has authored numerous highly credited papers. Thor’s engineers excel at tackling complex customer problems, designing solutions for you even when you’ve exhausted all other options.
Waikato University
Nihal Kularatna, an Associate Professor specialising in surge protection at Waikato University in New Zealand, and his team of Doctorate students, have been an integral part of Thor Technologies’ R&D team for over seven years. These Waikato University-based experts co-developed the patented SC Regenerative surge circuit; a technology specifically designed for your ultimate protection.

Our Veterans Charity: Diggers Rest – Soldiers Retreat
At Thor Technologies, we are dedicated to supporting our veterans through our partnership with Diggers Rest – Soldiers Retreat, a compassionate eco-friendly bush lodge located on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast.
This initiative provides free accommodation and a supportive environment for active and former ADF members and their families to reconnect, heal, and reintegrate into society. Recognising the ongoing challenges faced by veterans, particularly in the wake of recent conflicts, our support aims to combat social isolation, reduce family stress, and foster community belonging. Diggers Rest offers programs such as working bees, adventure trips, and outdoor activities like camping and fishing, all designed to promote healing, purpose, and connection.
